In general, everyone can benefit from higher levels of antioxidants – both young and old.

Proper nutrition is made up of 6 types of nutrients that must come from your diet. These include carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water. Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are called macronutrients because they are needed in large amounts to produce energy for your body. Vitamins and minerals are called micronutrients because they are needed in small amounts.

There are 13 essential vitamins, which are divided into two categories: water-soluble vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins like vitamins C and the B vitamins need water to be absorbed, and leave the body in the urine. Fat-soluble vitamins need fat to be absorbed and are stored in fat. Fat soluble vitamins stay in your body longer.

16 essential minerals can be separated into two categories: major or macrominerals, and trace or microminerals. Your body needs large amounts of the major minerals, at least 100 mg a day. These include minerals such as calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and sulfur. The trace minerals are needed in much smaller quantities and include minerals such as Chromium, copper, fluoride, iodine, iron, selenium and zinc.

When your body does not give enough vitamins and minerals, serious health problems can develop. Vitamins and minerals act as essential cofactors in all the metabolic processes of the body; if they are not present, the body cannot function properly. Pregnant women and young children are most vulnerable. The elderly are also more susceptible to illness and disease.

There is a lot of controversy today about how much we should supplement with vitamins and antioxidants. The mainstream medical establishment wants you to believe that vitamins are dangerous or unnecessary. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is, most of the scientific evidence today supports a growing need to supplement our diets with additional antioxidants. Most people get too few antioxidants in their diet, and are susceptible to disease because of this.

For example, the common one a day vitamin supplement is only useful for preventing certain nutritional deficiencies, but will have no antiaging effects, nor will they prevent disease. The amount of antioxidants in them is just too small. In fact, they are mostly a waste of money. If you want to slow your aging, you must take large amounts of antioxidants, despite what they tell you.

People in the West are also waking up to the benefits of herbs. Asian cultures such as China have been using herbal medicine for thousands of years. There are hundreds of herbal supplements that can have a beneficial effect on your health. For example, ginseng and green tea are both known to have healthy effects in the body. The scientific evidence is growing, for example, that green tea can help prevent certain diseases such as cancer. And ginseng has a wonderful tonic effect on the body.

Natural herbs and plants are so powerful, that many pharmaceutical companies are now turning to them to make their medicines and drugs. In fact, a multitude of our best-known pharmaceutical drugs are derived from plants. Aspirin, for example, originally came from white willow bark and meadowsweet.

Perhaps the arrogance pharmaceutical industry is beginning to realize that nature is more intelligent and can produce better drugs than laboratories.

The best way to get sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals in your diet is from healthy food. For example, Calcium can be found in large amounts in foods such as yogurt, milk, and natural cheese; dark green, leafy vegetables; nuts and seeds; sardines; blackberries and cherries; and beans such as pinto and soybeans.

That’s a pretty good list of foods that shows you what’s really healthy. Fruits and vegetables, certain types of fish, beans and nuts. Calcium has been shown to help prevent cancer. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables will take you a long way toward living a healthier lifestyle. Don’t forget to get plenty of sleep, and find ways to reduce stress.

It is important to remember one last thing. The FDA makes it illegal for health supplement manufacturers to make any disease claims for their products. For example, it is illegal for any supplement manufacturer to claim that any supplement can prevent, treat, cure, or diagnose a disease.

Now ask yourself a question: if there is a growing mountain of scientific evidence proving that many health supplements can prevent, treat and cure diseases, why has the FDA made it illegal for these claims to be made? Because the FDA is corrupt and wants to protect the profits of pharmaceutical companies and doctors in the mainstream medical community.

Remember that next time you shop for health supplements, and the next time you pay your taxes. The FDA is corrupt through and through, as they obviously care more about the profits of pharmaceutical companies than they do your health. They should be ashamed, and many of their laws are unjust.
